US Senate Candidate Gabriel Gomez Visits With Local Voters at Red Wing Diner

The stop at the Route 1 eatery was one of many for Gomez Thursday as he took his campaign along the South Shore.

The Red Wing Diner in Walpole had United States Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez as a patron Thursday afternoon, and yes he had the fried clams. Gomez stopped at the Route 1 restaurant as part of a number of stops throughout the state, including New Bedford, Weymouth, Worcester and Auburn. He shook hands with diners and sat down for a bite with some of his supporters. “We’re making a bunch of rounds in the South Shore and hitting a bunch of towns and obviously this place is one of the relics of Walpole," Gomez said. “So we’re going to meet a bunch of hopefully potential voters, introduce myself, hopefully earn their respect and get their vote on April 30.” Gomez is competing for the Republican nomination against former U.S. Attorney Michael …

Red Wing Diner: Serving Walpole for Over 80 Years

Owner Liam Murphy talks about the Walpole restaurant he's enjoyed working at for 32 years.

If you grew up in Walpole chances are you've stopped in and had a bite at the Red Wing Diner on Route 1. Odds are that your parents did the same thing and your grandparents before them. That's because the Red Wing Diner has been serving its customers in the same spot for over 80 years. “That’s something I love, especially at this time of the year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. People will come in with their sons and daughters and they’ll put them on one of the bar stools and they’ll say ‘This is where papa used to put me when we used to come.' and you hear that a lot,” said owner Liam Murphy. I am 41 and grew up in norfolk, Going to the Red Wing was always a special occassion, they have, without question THE BEST fried clams in New England. I dont get down to mass very often anymore but i intend to try and get down there around valentine's day and am really hoping to stop in at the Red Wing for those delicious clams (some scallops sound aweful good too :) ) -Keith Legge   more ›
