How goes that kidnaping of Justina shaping up? Held in solitary confinement, no school or church!Read More Has she been murdered by DCF yet? ACLU your silence is deafening!

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
Porter gladstone April 23, 2014 at 02:06 am
2 observations: race in my opinion is not a disadvantage. poverty is. and poverty affects people ofRead More all colors--so colleges can take into account challenges in life--but being the son of michael jordan shouldnt grant him an easier admissions process simply because of skin pigmentation. 2) people also need to understand that the system in place does in fact result in diversity that we should all want. New Yrk Times about a year ago ran an article on peter stuyvesant high school--an elite school in manhattan that changed it admission policy to strictly merit. the result was 1 black student 95% asian. 1% hispanic 3 % white. Im not really sure that is a desirable outcome either. going to college is not just about attending bio 101. its interacting with a diverse student body that can also be considered an education. Colleges should not in my opinion adopt a strict meritocratic admissions process--- hardship , poverty, challenges should be considered. I get why people dont want racial preferences-- but i also get why people may regret what they wished for.
dwayne roberson April 23, 2014 at 07:02 am
Affirmative Action was the Planners foolhardy attempt to fix racism with racism. It is indicative ofRead More a pay back attitude apparent in Holder and Obama. This does not advance the actual state of equality. It does perpetuate the bitterness that the race industry and Democrat party rely on for power. A return to colorblind meritocracy is all that can really be fair and equal.

Its about time. Now do the same in other states and in the state workforce too. Cleanup upRead More America, grow the economy? Thats a start, anyone running a business knows this. These people must change their culture, thats why they have so many failures and I am tired of hearing the same spin for 30 years.
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
Jennifer April 23, 2014 at 07:45 am
Also, colleges are weighing in. Stanford has been very vocal in saying that the common core does notRead More prepare anyone for a STEM major in college, certainly not at stanford. But other colleges, even community colleges, are worried, because by defining a common core diploma as "college and career ready", they are REQUIRED to offer credit-bearing courses to anyone carrying a CC degree. But they have seen the standards, and believe that those students who complete the minimum CC standards, will still require remediation, but now they will have to offer credit for it.

More top-down Progressive Central Planning from Washington prigs and cronies. Heaven forbid we allowRead More freedom and choice for kids and parents. In the documentary Waiting For Superman I can still see the desperate faces of the parents trying to win in the charter school admission lotteries. Central Planning is also devastating the country in economics, health care, energy as well as education. The bigger the Government ... fill in the gap. There is a methane emission problem from Washington.

About the "socialist" or "anti-American" aspect - I know what people are talkingRead More about, but I think there should be a distinction between anything you have seen so far, and CC. There are, to my knowledge, no CC social studies textbooks yet. It is the textbook publishers themselves (who helped write the CC and will produce all further materials anyway) that are twisted in this way. I HAVE noticed a little here and there, like when my daughter had to write and illustrate a children's book explaining, in simple terms, the 5 Pillars of Islam. And a couple of paragraphs on important muslim contributions to society in the middle ages, and today> I am cool with that, if she had also anytime during the year, produced a diorama of the nativity, or drawn and illustrated the Ten Commandments (which would hit two major world religions at once). But no. Jews, in SS at least, are known only in the context of the holocaust, although they do get air time in English through readings - about the holocaust. Christianity is also covered - as in, the Catholic church and the inquisition, and The Crusades - good or bad? Don't worry, they get a second bite at Christianity in AP US History, in "The Invasion of the Americas" (Out of Many - A History of the American People, AP edition, Pearson Publishing) This is the third sentence after title: "Armed men marched across the Caribbean Islands, plundering villages, slaughtering men, and raping women". Um, since when is the Caribbean even a part of the US, and why is it in a US history book? The Christian part comes a little later, when Cortez reaches Mexico, otherwise known as "The destruction of the Indies" in which it is revealed that the "brave Indian leaders and thousands of martyrs" were "no match" for "mounted warriors with steel swords". This is followed quickly a reading from Bartolome de la Casas, a priest who had "participated in the plunder, but later had a crisis of conscience" condemning the "greed and cruelty of the Christians". I guess they had to go that far back to find a time when they could portray Islam in such a Rosy light, and Christianity as a scourge upon the earth. Sure, bad things have been done in the name of religion throughout history. But with what Islam is like TODAY, maybe the crusaders had their reasons? I dont like ANY religion being taught in school, as such. Why should my child study the Pillars of Islam, if other religions - peaceful ones, say Buddhism, or fun ones like animist religions, get no airtime? Why? Oh, because Susan Armitrage wrote the book for Pearson, and Susan Armitrage is a prominent convert to Islam, and a prominent critic of Christianity and the west. The educational system is already skewed. School boards dont actually read the textbooks they order, unless there are complaints, and honestly, I didnt notice either until the CC thing came up. Then I said "What the hell is this?"

Funny how Netflix is the "bad boy" yet those that offer more commercials than the movieRead More itself are just fine :) Cable today is pure garbage, a 2 hr movie will last half the night with all those commercials and since all sports from all countries, could be seen live over the internet...cable is obsolete. Netflix is weak but is a fine alternative to cable for now. (as for news, please, you must be brain-dead to get your news from cable...with all of them all over you from second you start the computer to turn on the radio to even the second you "check" the e-mail on the phone. so Reuters don't worry about Netflix, worry about cable companies whose stocks should be worth a little more than half an ounce of dirt

Dorie, stowing away on a plane is a crime. And no, the boy himself did not pose a threat. But theRead More fact that he (anyone) can get that close to a plane poses a threat. As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. I do believe Ms. Warren is 'for' jobs... since she's had herself about 57 of them...none of whichRead More were employed in the private sector...Her Housedad who takes care of the 'child' left behind after only two years old seems as a nice man though...Quite a man to allow her to carry her 'ex husband's name after marrying her. Quite a student in college I heard where the only question she got wrong is when she chose that 'Free Enterprise' is a Battleship in Fall River.
Frank Pignone April 23, 2014 at 08:28 am
"Warren voted as a Republican for many years saying, "I was a Republican because I thoughtRead More that those were the people who best supported markets". She states that in 1995 she began to vote Democratic because she no longer believed that to be true, but she says that she has voted for both parties because she believed that neither party should dominate." Her present Husband is called 'Mann'...but I do not believe she could ever handle the repercussions of 'where that could fall politically ....She is, subjectively , one of the most 'unsettled' minds I've ever politically read of in my historical library. I do admire her early life sticking with her mom, waitressing with her aunt's business as she lost her Dad early, but with ambitions, unsettled; college to college, job to job, state to state; political party to political party... I'd want her blood checked first to see if there is any clinical signs of Bi Polar First...No shame at all in that and I do mean this sincerely. It can be controlled by medication. I just viewed 'talking' about 'factories'.. and the tone in her voice of mind is simply , for a word, ungracious, unthankful, and needlessly, 'Vicious'......where it could easily been 'toned down' to a 'talk'....The 'hate' for strong business people who supply jobs, and opportunity and place money into the goods and services of our country is evident and does not understand it is much better to work in a 'Factory' rather than in a tent or the elements when it is not raining....Again, and seriously, I'd demand a series of blood work to see if Lithium or some other treatment can calm her down and aid her in choosing a position where she can stay for at least two or three years or so....
