Editor's Note: The following was provided by the office of Superintendent Lincoln Lynch.

Dear Parents:

As Superintendent of Schools, I am pleased to introduce Mr. Brendan Dearborn as principal of Boyden Elementary School. Principal Dearborn is a seasoned educator with fourteen years of experience in Massachusetts elementary education, the last four being spent as an elementary school principal at West Elementary School, Stoughton, Massachusetts. Brendan is highly educated having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education at Stonehill College, a Masters in Education from the University of Massachusetts, and a second Masters in Organizational Management from Endicott College.

Special appreciation is extended the sixteen member Principal Selection Committee, chaired by Brian Walsh, former Chairman of the School Committee. The Committee was comprised of four parents, four teachers, four current and former School Committee members, and four WPS administrators. Principal Dearborn was the Committee's unanimous recommendation to the Superintendent.

Mr. Dearborn recently summarized his educational philosophy as follows:

The role of an elementary school administrator is to provide the student with a child centered education.  A principal needs to be visible and available to students, teachers and families. Building connections with all involved in the school community, will lead to healthy relationships with one goal in mind; student achievements.  It is essential to have open and honest communication around students and instruction in order to increase the student's ability across the curriculum.  The culture of the school should allow children to feel comfortable and safe to be themselves.  Students are able to excel academically when they feel safe in the classroom and are willing to take educational chances.  The connection between developing students academically and socially is crucial to the success of the whole child.

A "Meet and Greet" Open House gathering has been scheduled for parents and students for Wednesday, August 8, from 7:00 to 9:00  PM, at Boyden School Cafeteria. Please stop by and say hello to Principal Dearborn. Light refreshments will be served.

Please join me and the entire educational community in welcoming Mr. Dearborn to the community where parents, teachers and school leaders share a demonstrated commitment to the success of our children.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lynch
