Walpole Town Administrator Update for Hurricane Sandy

Town Administrator Michael Boynton lays out Walpole's plans during Hurricane Sandy.

From Walpole Town Administrator Michael Boynton:

Walpole Town Hall and all town offices are closed today at the request of Governor Patrick. However, we will be activating our Emergency Operations Center at Town Hall at 10 a.m. today. A storm emergency telephone has been set up at the EOC. That number is (508)660-6355. Please use this number for storm related inquiries. We ask that you DO NOT call police or fire dispatch with non-emergency storm calls. We want to keep those lines open for actual emergency situations. Again, the storm number is (508)660-6355.

Trash pick up is taking place this morning. Our trash hauler expects to have the route completed by early afternoon, and has also agreed to retrace the route tomorrow if anyone is missed. With the heaviest winds forecast for this afternoon, we urge all customers with barrels to bring those in off the street as soon as possible after the pickup is completed.

A shelter is available at the Walpole Senior Center at Town Hall. If you are in need of transportation, please call the EOC line at (508)660-6355.

Power outages should be reported directly to NSTAR at 800-592-2000. It is important that you make a record of these outages so that NSTAR will know who is out. The Town will be in contact with NSTAR throughout the storm. Please do not call the Police or fire departments to report a power outage unless you have power lines down. Do not approach or touch any downed wires.

Please contact the EOC to report downed trees blocking streets or sidewalks. Again that number is (508)660-6355.

Residents can stay up to date with EOC & storm news via the Walpole Recreation Page on Facebook. Director Josh Cole will be updating that page throughout the storm.

We greatly appreciate your assistance and cooperation as the effects of this very large and severe storm move into our area. We will be monitoring the storm and staffing the EOC throughout the storm, and further updates will be provided as conditions warrant.

Thank you and please stay safe!

Sincerely,
Michael E. Boynton Town Administrator
