Walpole State Primary Election Results

Town Clerk Ron Fucile said that the only issue that arose was the amount of coffee in an otherwise smooth state primary election in Walpole.

Things went smoothly for today's state primary election in Walpole with an unofficial voter turnout of 11.7%.

Poll locations in Walpole were changed to coincide with the first day of school in town.

Precincts 1,2,6 and 7 voted at the Walpole Public Library and Precincts 3,4,5 and 8 voted at Blackburn Hall. Locations will go back to the High School, Old Post Road Elementary School and Fisher Elementary School for the general election in November.

Town Clerk Ron Fucile said that the change in polling locations worked fine for the state primary election because of the anticipated low voter turnout.

“Everybody knew that it was going to have to be so we got it done. The library was a little crowded but it’s a great place to be and everybody seemed to be satisfied, including the voters,” Fucile said.

“I wouldn’t want to do this for a presidential [election], but with 11-percent, we can get by. If 84-percent tried it, you wouldn’t be talking to me right now, I’d be on a plane for some place,” he said jokingly.

Fucile anticipated a 10-percent voter turnout, which was close to the unofficial turnout of 11.7% (1,943 of 16,602 registered voters).

U.S. House of Representatives (MA-8th District) Republican candidate Joe Selvaggi beat out Republican challenger Matias Temperley, in Walpole, by a vote of 504-216. After votes are tallied statewide the winner will take on incumbent Stephen Lynch in November.

In the Governor's Council (District 2) Democratic race Bart Timilty came away with 343 votes in Walpole, with Robert Jubinville receiving 271 votes, Brian Clinton receiving 222 votes and Patrick McCabe tallying 101 votes. The winner statewide will take on Republican candidate Earl Sholley in the general election.
