U.S. Postal Service Keeping Saturday Delivery

The U.S. Postal Service had planned to end Saturday delivery.

The United States Postal Service says it will "back down," on its plan to end Saturday mail delivery, according to the Associated Press Twitter feed.

The U.S. Congress forced the Postal Service to cancel its plans, according to the AP. The postal service had planned to end Saturday mail delivery by Aug.1 as part of its large plan to deal with its large debts.

"Congress has prohibited implementation of a new national delivery schedule for mail and packages, which would consist of package delivery Monday through Saturday and mail delivery Monday through Friday, and which would have taken effect the week of Aug. 5, 2013," the USPS Board of Governors said in a statement.

The Board also said, as part of the Post Service's five-year recovery plan, it would support a new delivery schedule but did not specify the terms of it. The move, they said, would save $2 billion. The Board also said it has asked its managers to reopen negotiations with union employees to lower labor costs and explore further options for revenue increases.

Walpole's post office is located at 10 Common St.
