Walpole Police Warn of New Telephone Scam

From the Walpole Police Department:

Please be advised that we actively have a group calling local businesses claiming to be NSTAR and demanding an overdue payment. The party claims to be a representative of NSTAR and states that $1000 is owed immediately or they are going to shut off power to the business. The victim is then instructed to purchase $1000 in prepaid MoneyPaks and provide the routing information to the "NSTAR employee." In the event that a victim purchases the MoneyPaks and provides the routing numbers, that money is gone for good.

This is actively occurring, as we have had at least six calls in the past hour. In the event you are contacted, DO NOT provide any financial information to the calling party.

Understand that no legitimate company would ever conduct business in this manner. Don't hesitate to contact your local police department if you have received a similar call.
