Walpole Man Facing 7 Charges After Stealing From a Car, Assaulting Car Owner

A Walpole man was arrested, last Thursday, after allegedly stealing items from a car and then assaulting the owner of the car and resisting arrest.

According to Walpole Police Deputy Chief John Carmichael, Sean F. McCann, 30, of 214 Washington Street, Walpole, allegedly broke into a car on Union Street and stole numerous items from the victim and fled on foot.

According to Carmichael, the victim quickly noticed that his car had been broken into and drove down the street to find McCann allegedly carrying the stolen items.

"The victim confronted the suspect at which time the suspect began to punch and strike the victim," Carmichael said.

The victim, who name was not released, was not injured in the attack.

McCann then fled into Bird Park where police pursued and set up a perimeter.

Officer Paul Lagoa found McCann passed out in the park and confronted him.

"The suspect woke up and attacked the officer who sprayed him with [pepper spray]," Carmichael said. "The suspect continued to fight, the officer drew his service weapon and ordered commands that went un-followed. The suspect was then maintained at gun point and then tackled by officer Luke Parlon where they were able to get him in handcuffs and placed in custody."

McCann was charged with Assault and Battery, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Unarmed Robbery, Larceny Over $250, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle.
