Walpole Obituary: Ruth M. Phelan

Phelan, M. Ruth, (Polsky) 90, of Norton, formerly of Walpole, passed away on March 16, 2013 after a brief illness. 

Ruth was a graduate of Lawrence High School in 1939 and went onto hairdressing school.   She then became a secretary for Bird & Son in East Walpole, a job that she held for 29 years until her retirement in 1983.  Ruth married the late John J. “Potts” Phelan in 1941 and enjoyed 71 years of marriage until his passing on January 4, 2013.  Ruth and John loved to travel and took many trips to Hawaii, South America and Europe.  They were avid golfers and took their clubs wherever they went. Ruth sang in the church choir, loved to dance and was a member of the Walpole Senior Knitting Club.

Ruth was the beloved mother of Patricia Ann Murphy of Foxboro , MA and Ruth Ellen Dziubaniuk  of San Dimas, CA, and the late John J. Phelan, Jr.  She was the loving grandmother to John R. Murphy of MA, Michele Murphy of PA, Cheryl Medina and Kim Dyer of CA, Linda Phelan and Heather Buell of FL. 

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 22 at 10:00 am in the Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond St., Walpole.  Interment will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, High Street, Canton, MA.  Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, March 21 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., Norwood, MA  02062.
