Walpole Obituary: Eunice M. Kelley

Ms. Kelley was a former resident of Walpole.

Eunice Marie Kelley, RN, 81, of Cape Porpoise, ME, formerly of Walpole, MA passed away peacefully on December 11, 2012 after a long journey with Alzheimer's.

She was born August 9, 1931, the second child of Otis and Martha Lilley of Scarborough, ME. She attended Scarborough schools and graduated from the Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.

In 1953, Eunice married Charles Elliott Kelley, III and they resided in Walpole, MA. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage until Charles' passing in 2003.

Eunice's compassion for others was evident in her professional and personal life. She was an ER nurse at Norwood Hospital and Southwood Hospital in MA. She volunteered with the Visiting Nurses Association and was an active member of United Church in Walpole. Upon her retirement to Cape Porpoise, she continued her caregiving as a volunteer at Southern Maine Medical Center.

In spite of her illness, she maintained her kind and caring attitude toward others, along with her sense of humor.

She was predeceased by her parents, a sister Elaine, a brother Eben O. Lilley, and her beloved husband Charles. Eunice is survived by her children, Sharon E. Carleton and husband Terry of Needham, MA, Stephen E. Kelley, Charles C. Kelley, Jonathan S. Kelley and wife Charlotte, Richard M. Kelley and Elizabeth M. Kelley Erickson and husband Daniel, all of Maine; her sisters Edna Leary and husband James of Saco, Eva Hayes and husband Dale of Brandon, Manitoba, and a brother Elwin Lilley of Scarborough; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, with another one on the way.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to the wonderful and caring staff of Gorham House, and a special thank you to Ginger Freeman and Carol Andrews for their loving care of Eunice during her illness. There are no calling hours.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church On The Cape, Langsford Road, Cape Porpoise with Rev. Ruth Merriam officiating. Burial will be private.
