Retired Walpole Fire Chief Leonard Anderson Dies Monday

Leonard spent 30 years with the Walpole Fire Department before retiring in 1996. He lived in Walpole for 59 years.

Retired Walpole Fire Department Chief Leonard Anderson, 82, died in his East Walpole Home surrounded by his family on Monday, June 10th, 2013.

Born in Boston on March 6, 1931, the son of A. Leonard and Grace M. (Doyle) Anderson. He graduated from Stoughton High School with the Class of 1948. Entered into the Submarine Corp with the United States Navy and served his country just after WWII.

He founded Anderson Electrical Contractors of Walpole in 1961. He was appointed to the Walpole Fire Department in 1966 as a firefighter, promoted to Lieutenant in 1972 and sworn in as Chief of the Department in January 1983 serving until July of 1996 when he retired.

Member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the New England Association of Fire Chiefs, the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts and the Norfolk County Fire Chiefs Association.

A resident of Walpole since 1954 moving here from Stoughton and Norwood.

Beloved husband of Ruth P. (Silvestri) Anderson Son of the late A. Leonard and Grace M. (Doyle) Anderson Loving father of Patrick L Anderson of Boston, William E. Anderson of Sharon and Judith M. Anderson of East Walpole. Cherished grandfather of Erin M. Andersson of Arlington, Patricia G. Rocha of Mansfield, Kate, Patrick, Jesse and Molly Anderson of Sharon. Great grandfather of Austin and Jared Rocha of Mansfield. Brother of John D. Anderson of Stoughton and Richard L. Anderson of W.Bridgewater.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend theMass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Church Washington Street East Walpole on Saturday, June 15 at 9 a.m. Visiting hours are 4 to 8 p.m. at James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common St. Walpole.
