Frederick A. Atkinson Dies at 89; Visiting Hours are Wednesday in Walpole

Frederick A. Atkinson, formerly of Walpole, served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Frederick A. Atkinson, 89, of Douglas, formerly of Walpole, Norton, Framingham and Roslindale died in the Milford Regional Hospital in Milford on Sunday, June 9th.

Born in North East Point, Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia, Canada on Feb. 25, 1924, he was the son of Frederick Nickerson and Abbie Jane (York) Atkinson. He attended school in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Upon Completion of School, he entered the United States Navy to serve his new country during World War II.

He was a retired Transportation Supervisor for the Stop & Shop Bakery.

He loved Maine and Nova Scotia, and the ocean.

Beloved husband of the late Dorothy M. (Ryan) Atkinson. Loving father of Pat Smith of Douglas, Barbara Soule of Whitman, Kathryn Kerr of Dudley, Frederick Atkinson, Jr. of East Boston, Janet Lydon of Byfield, Judy Atkinson of East Falmouth, Brian Atkinson of Walpole, Gregory Atkinson of Stoneham, and Nancy Atkinson of Londonderry, NH.

Cherished grandfather of 15 and great grandfather of 11. Brother of Donald Brewer of Ocala, FL, the late John Brewer, and the late Alice Whitney. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church East Street (Route 27) at Diamond Street Walpole on Thursday, June 13 at 10 a.m.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common St. Walpole.

Interment will be in Saint Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. Memorial donations may be made to: Liam Gerard McHugh Memorial Fund c/o South Shore Hospital, Evergreen Society, 55 Fogg Road Weymouth, MA 02190.
