Walpole Board of Health Reports Violations at Several Food Establishments Last Month

Walpole completed more than 15 health inspections in restaurants during April and early May, and several restaurants and food establishments came out with violations.

While most establishments received warning violations for what are called “best retail practices,” some received harsher violations, requiring immediate remediation.

Clyde’s Barbeque received a violation for improper temperature for food storage in March, but it was immediately corrected.

Subway was checked for having no one employed in the store who knew proper procedures for a choking patron. The problem was corrected in a later inspection when the owner certified several employees.

McDonald’s on 595 Main St. was cited for storing raw beef below cooked bacon.

3 Teens Arrested on Armed Robbery Charges Outside Foxborough Apartment Complex

Three teenagers were arrested Sunday night on armed robbery charges after allegedly assaulting and robbing a 16-year-old Halifax boy outside Pine Tree Gardens apartment complex on Chestnut Street, according to Foxborough police logs.

A 17-year-old Sharon man, 16-year-old Sharon boy and a 16-year-old Foxborough boy were each arrested and charged with armed robbery, conspiracy and larceny over $250 following the incident.

Police received an emergency 911 call from a Halifax woman just after 8 p.m. Sunday reporting her 16-year-old son was “assaulted by three [males] in the common area of Pine Tree Gardens, 101 Chestnut St., Foxborough,” according to police logs. “[Caller] reported firearm was shown during the incident.”

Foxborough officers James Fahey, Patrick Hoffman, Valesay Collins, Douglas Miller, and James Payne responded to the scene.

Police contacted Verizon for ping information of one of the suspect’s cell phones after the three teenagers fled the area.

During the investigation, officers determined the Sharon address of one of the suspects through the cell phone ping and responded to Sharon where they were assisted by Sharon Police in taking one suspect into custody.

By 12:36 a.m., police had successfully located all three suspects and recovered a BB gun.

MANSFIELD

Mansfield Police and Fire Praised for Response to Boston Marathon Bombing

When Boston needed the help of local police and fire departments in the wake of the Boston Marathon Bombing, Mansfield answered.

Like many other towns, Mansfield sent four members of their police department as part of a call up by the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council to provide security and investigative support to the City of Boston in the days after the Boston Marathon Bombing.

Being recognized for their work in front of the selectmen, Mansfield Police Chief Ron Sellon praised the members of his department for their efforts to help Boston in the days after the bombing.

“Members of the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Counsel stood fixed posts for extended periods of time in heavy gear while knowing that a dangerous terrorist had struck once, and would likely do so again,” Sellon said.

The police chief added that some of the Mansfield members of the counsel put in 17-hour days during their time in Boston.

Norton Interim Superintendent Selected For Wrentham

Norton interim superintendent Dr. Christopher Martes is continuing his work in Wrentham, moving from Norton after assisting the district in selecting Joseph Baeta as permanent superintendent.

“You folks need to see if I’m a good fit,” he said. “I like interim work, I bring a set of skills and I’ve that I do like doing this work.”

Martes, who served in Norton for the 2012-13 school year, said he’s looking forward to coming to a new town and a new situation.

A Stoughton man faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping, after he repeatedly physically abused his girlfriend, and held her captive in her Bridgewater home for the past month.

The woman, 50, sought medical attention May 17 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, having sustained facial, rib and back fractures, as well as bruising "all over her body," according to a report filed by Bridgewater Police.

Her boyfriend, Mark Crean, 49, of McCormick Terrace in Stoughton, was arrested in Wareham on May 17, and is charged with attempted murder; kidnapping; aggravated domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; two counts of domestic assault and battery; drug to confine; and witness intimidation.

Lack of Quorum Dissolves Town Meet After 37 Articles are Discussed and Voted

Easton Town Meeting was dissolved after approximately four hours Monday night after there were not enough voters present to reach a quorum.

Voters did not schedule another date to resume the meeting. As a result, the remaining articles (38-44) will likely be put on hold until a Special Town Meeting in the fall, town clerk Jeremy Gillis said.

Residents still voted on 37 articles, however. Thirty two passed as written. Two were dismissed. One was amended and two (Articles 33 and 37) failed.

Cellphone Battle Erupts in Council Chambers

Last month's hot topic during an Attleboro City Council meeting was when councilors take their bathroom breaks. This week it was whether councilors were using their cellphones during meetings. Councilor Jeremy Denlea alleged Monday night that some of his colleagues were "texting, emailing and playing games during every meeting." Councilor Jonathan Weydt, one of the alleged cellphone users, said he was "very upset and disgusted" by the allegation.

Local Restaurant Sending Get Well Banners to Joe Sharkey

The Lunch Box Deli, 859 Boston Providence Hwy. in Norwood, is inviting the community to write warm wishes and send their prayers for the recovery of Norwood resident Joseph Sharkey.

Sharkey is a student at Brown University and is currently in the hospital recovering from a head injury.  On May 13  Sharkey was speaking with a group of people when suddenly a man walked up to him and punched him in the head, causing severe injuries.

Beth Saccone is the owner of the Lunch Box Deli and knows the Sharkey family.

Town Meeting Votes to Three More Liquor Licenses for Dedham Square to Increase Business and More

Three new liquor licenses to Dedham Square, and the cancellation of the JBL Bus Service were among the decisions made duringDedham's Town Meeting Monday night.

In Article Three, it was recommended to eliminate the JBL Bus Service.

Town meeting member Howard Ostroff believed that the bus service was still necessary for the town and suggested that $29,000 be added to include hiring a part-time driver for the service.

Town Administrator Bill Keegan, however, believed that the service was too expensive for the town and since the amount of ridership did declined within the last few years, it seemed unnecessary.
