Dedham Police Department Awarded Grant to Enhance Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety

In an effort to make Dedham a safer place for our pedestrians and bicyclists, the Dedham Police Department will use a $3,000 grant provided by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security(EOPSS).  

The funding is from $192,000 provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) specifically to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

Dedham is one of 48 police departments to receive this grant.

High-Speed Chase Results in Drug Bust of Norwood Man 

A high-speed car chase in Stoughton this past weekend resulted in a drug bust and the arrests of a Norwood man and a Stoughton woman, according to a post on the Stoughton Police Department's Facebook page.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. on June 8, "Officer Healey, while on his way to work, noticed what appeared to be a domestic event in the vehicle in front of him. He called in the information and followed the vehicle while waiting for a marked unit," according to the SPD Facebook post.

Walpole Officers Receive First Responder Award

Summary: At last year's Night Before the Fourth celebration, Walpole Police Officer Robert Simmons collapsed in the police station. He suffered a heart attack in the middle of the roll-call room, where more than 20 officers were preparing for the event.

Several Walpole Police officers sprung into action and began life saving CPR while officer Ian Tolland ran down, and back up, three floors to retrieve an AED. That AED was used to shock officer Simmons three times and he was eventually saved.

For their work, officers Manganello, Moses and Tolland were awarded the Massachusetts Police Training Council's First Responder Award on June 6th at a ceremony held at Bentley University.

Also honored at the event, were Walpole Police officers Michael Benner and Luke Parlon, who were instrumental in saving the life of a Walpole resident during a difficult incident last year.

Foxborough Burglary Suspect Calls Tow Truck After Vehicle Gets Stuck at Scene

A suspected burglar in a daytime breaking and entering Tuesday on Bailey Street may have aided police in the investigation when he got his getaway vehicle stuck at the crime scene.

“The burglar had to call a tow truck because he had driven his vehicle behind the house to hide it from being in the driveway and he got stuck,” said Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary following Tuesday’s incident. “The tow truck operator was the one who called the police about suspicious activity. Once the car was pulled out the [suspect] jumped in the vehicle and drove across the lawn to get away.”

O’Leary said the tow truck operator called police to the scene and after an initial investigation discovered the break-in.

“Unfortunately for the bad guy we have a good description of the truck he used and more importantly his license plate number,” O’Leary said.
