5 Things, Sept. 8-9: Rebels Football, Fishing Derby and a Concert at Bird Park

1. Rain in the Forecast for This Weekend

On Saturday there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 8 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

On Saturday night, look for showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after midnight. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Patchy fog before 11 p.m. Low around 64. South wind 10 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

On Sunday, there is a chance of showers, mainly before 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

NOAA predicts Sunday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 52. Light northwest wind.

2. Walpole Rebels Football Opens Season at Braintree

The Walpole High varsity football team will start their season on the road against Braintree Saturday at 2 p.m. For preseason predictions for the Rebels .

3. Walpole Town Forest Fishing Derby Sunday

The will be held on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kids can cast their rods for a chance to win prizes. Prizes will be awarded to both boys and girls in three age groups: 8 and Under, 9-14 and 15-18.

Sign up for free the day of the Derby at White’s Bridge located in the Town Forest behind Walpole High School off of South Street.

Hotdogs and hamburgers will be served along with drinks.

The event is sponsored by the Walpole Town Forest Committee, North Walpole Fish & Game Club, Walpole Sportsman Club, Rocky’s Ace Hardware, Bass Pro Shop - Foxboro and Robin’s Bait & Tackle Shop.

4. Reminder: Concert at Bird Park Saturday

Saturday, Sept. 8 head to for a concert on the music court featuring The Pi Alley Band. The show will begin at 4:30 p.m. The Pi Alley Band is the new standard for Rock & Roll dance music in the greater Boston area. Two great guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and four way harmonies give Pi Alley the versatility to cover all the top hits of yesterday and today. The concert is being presented by The Friends of Bird Park.
