5 Things, Dec. 15-16: Toys for Tots, Santa's House and Winter Farmers Market

1. Santa's House on Walpole Common

The great tradition of Santa on the Common starts this year on Dec. 6.  

Sponsored by the Walpole Chamber of Commerce, Old Saint Nick visits his house on the Walpole Common and welcomes children to come and tell him their Christmas wishes!

Santa will be at his house from 3-5 p.m. on weekdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. until Dec. 22.

2. Walpole Winter Farmer's Market

All year long, particularly during the holiday season, is a great time to think about (and shop from) local growers and food producers.  Your next chance to shop local is this Sunday, December 16th from 10am – 2pm at the VFW Hall, 109 Robbins Rd (off Rt. 27; next to the Johnson Middle School).  Make your holiday shopping list complete with butternut squash, sweet potatoes and other vegetables, maple syrup, homemade pies and other baked goods, jams, pickles, arts and crafts and more!  Participating vendors include A Summer Place Farm, Oakdale Farms, Town Farm LLC, Davell’s Farm, Vermarje International, Fior D’Italia, Jack’s Dog Cookies, Elizabeth Origami, Plants by Ann, and NYR Organics among others!  And free holiday craft activities for kids while you shop! Kids can make holiday ornaments, photo frames and more.

4. Toys for Tots Drive

The Rte 1 Walpole Edward Jones office Toys for Tots drive will end Saturday.

Holly Landry, the local Edward Jones financial advisor, is supporting the Marine Toys for Tots program by using her office as a drop-off location for this year's toy drive.

Local residents may help needy children in the area by bringing in a new, unwrapped toy to the office, Rte 1 South, 1600 Boston Providence Hwy, Suite # 121, during regular business hours through Dec. 15.

5. Weekend Weather

The National Weather Service calls for Saturday to be sunny, with a high near 37. North wind 6 to 8 mph.

In the evening look for increasing clouds, with a low around 23. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday there is a chance of snow before 5 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday night there is a chance of rain and snow before 7 p.m., then rain. Low around 36. Northeast wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
