5 Things, August 23: Important Info For Students Playing Fall Sports

Look for mostly sunny skies, with a high near 87. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. At night, look for partly cloudy skies, with a low around 59. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

2. Important Notice For Students Playing Fall Sports

The following is information concerning the starting dates of all fall 2012 sport teams and the proper paperwork needed for completion before the first practices of each fall sport.

Football practice starts Monday, August 20th and all other fall sports programs start on Thursday, August 23rd. Location and start times are listed below.

The MIAA has issued some new requirements concerning proper paperwork needed by each athlete in order to participate in any sport for the school year 2012-2013. All paperwork for Football participants must be turned in by 3:00 PM Friday, August 17th. All paperwork for all other fall sport participants must be turned in by 3:00 PM Tuesday, August 21st. All paperwork must be submitted to the Walpole High School Athletic Office. Failure to do so will mean no first day practice participation.

In order for any student/athlete to participate this fall, there are three forms that need to be completed:
l)  An updated physical within the last 13 months
2) A three part permission slip
3) A Concussion Education Parent Form
The 3-part permission slip and the Concussion Education Form can be picked up from the Varsity Coach or at the High School between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM Monday through Friday.

The following are the start times and locations for the first day of each fall sport’s first practice:

FOOTBALL – Monday, August 20th at Walpole High School in Room A246
All Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores report at 7:15 AM
All Freshmen report at 8:00 AM

The following Sports will start on Thursday, August 23rd.

FIELD HOCKEY – Thursday, August 23rd at Walpole High School Track
All grades (9 – 12) report at 8:00 AM
2nd session (Upperclassmen only) 2:00 – 4:00 PM

BOYS SOCCER – Thursday, August 23rd at Bird Middle School
Grades 10 – 12 report from 8:30 – 11:00 AM and 2:00 – 4:30 PM
Grade 9 report 1:00 – 4:00 PM

GIRLS SOCCER – Thursday, August 23rd at Ellis Field
Grades 9 – 12 report from 8:00 – 10:00 AM and 1:00 – 3:00 PM

CROSS COUNTRY – Thursday, August 23rd, Boys & Girls, at Walpole High Track
Grades 9 – 12 report from 6:00 – 8:00 PM

VOLLEYBALL - Thursday, August 23rd at Elm Street School
All players Grades 9 – 12 report from 8:00 – 11:00 AM and 1:00 – 3:00 PM

GOLF - Thursday, August 23rd at Walpole Country Club
All players grades 9 – 12 report from 3:30 – 6:30 PM at the putting green

SWIMMING - Thursday, August 23rd and Friday, August 24th at Blue Hills Regional Swimming Pool
Grades 9 – 12 report from 8:30 – 10:30 AM both days

CHEERLEADING - Thursday, August 23rd at Walpole High Main Gym
Grades 9 – 12 report at 8:00 AM for first session and 2nd session will be coordinated after first session.

ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION/USERS FEES:

The User’s fees this year will be the same as the past three years.
For each Fall Sport Participant the fee is $200 per athlete.
The check should be made out to: WALPOLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS (not WHS)
On the Memo line of each check please list the following three things:
1) Athlete’s full name
2) Year of Graduation
3) Sport the athlete is participating in

This check is due on or before Friday, September 7, 2012
The fee is only due if the student / athlete has made the final roster.

4. Walpole Library Continues Tuneful Thursdays Series

The will be continuing their Tuneful Thursdays musical series from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Today's performance will be by singer/songwriter Steve Blunt. Blunt will perform a family concert of original music. To find out more about Steve Blunt visit http://www.steveblunt.com/. The program is free and no registration required. Suitable for ages 3 and up. This program is sponsored by Shelley Alexander, founder of the Goddard School Walpole.
