CAREGIVER RELIEF PROGRAM

“The Club” at The Center at Medfield, is open and offers a caregiving relief program to Medfield residents and surrounding towns. “A comfortable environment, filled with engaging activities, is available for seniors who may need dependable support by dedicated staff”. The quote is from Grace Nunziato, Program Coordinator of the Adult Respite Care Program at the Center. Care giving is a rewarding, yet demanding and at times, overwhelming job.

The idea of this program is a brainchild of Roberta Lynch, COA Director for Medfield COA whose mother had Alzheimer’s.  Roberta observed the toll it took on her father. She was delighted when her father received the benefits of a respite program. So when she started at the Council on Aging in Medfield in 2001 her goal was to start such a program for residents.  In 2011, a successful grant application with Metro West Health Foundation has provided the required funding for this indispensable program, which has the capacity for up to 16 participants and applications are still being accepted.

A word from Roslyn Carter: There are 4 kinds of people in this world:

  • Those who have been caregivers
  • Those who are currently caregivers
  • Those who will be caregivers
  • Those who would need to be caregivers

DO NOT ASK ME TO REMEMBER

Do not ask me to remember’

Don’t try to make me understand,

Let me rest and know you’re with me,

Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.

I’m confused beyond your concept,

I am sad and sick and lost.

All I know is that I need you

To be with me at all cost

Do not lose your patience with me,

Do not scold or curse or cry.

I cannot help the way I’m acting

Can’t be different thought I try

Just remember that I need you,

That the best of me is gone,

Please don’t fail to stand beside me

Love me. ‘til my life is done.
