Walpole Lions Golf Tournament Returns for 20th Year

Largest Lions fundraiser back for June 10.

The Walpole Lions Club is holding its 20th annual golf tournament June 10, and King Lion Bob McCaffrey said it’s going to be a big event.

“It’s one of our largest fundraisers,” he said. “We usually have over 100 golfers. Our club has several fundraisers throughout the year to give to worthy causes.”

McCaffrey said the tournament usually raises $6,000-$8,000 for the club’s charitable concerns.

“100 percent of the net proceeds go right back to the community,” he said. “For the last four years we’ve donated $2,500 to the Night Before the Fourth.”

McCaffrey added the Walpole Lions also donate throughout the year to local youth sports.

“And also many of our in need residents,” he said.

He said it’s become a real tradition in Walpole, even though it’s held at the Norton Country Club.

“After 20 years, we’ve developed a decent following of folks who know year after year, oh it’s the second Monday of June, time for the golf tournament,” he said.

McCaffrey said many local businesses also sponsor a hole for the tournament or donate raffle items.

“It’s open to anyone who wants to signup,” McCaffrey said.
