Husson University President and CEO, Dr. Robert Clark, CFA, said, “The scholarship Susan and David made possible tells students, who they never met, that someone believes in their potential. Scholarships are deeply appreciated by our student scholars who often come from families of limited means. By supporting education, Susan and David are opening the doors of opportunity and helping the next generation to prosper and thrive.”

More About Susan Carlisle:

For more than 35 years, Susan Carlisle has been actively involved in many non-profit organizations in the Bangor area.   A graduate of Walpole High School in Walpole, Massachusetts and Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, Carlisle spent her immediate post-college years working as an editor for a small educational publishing company in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

After relocating to Bangor, Maine, she began her volunteer career, much of which has focused on children and education. She chaired the successful $4.5 million capital campaign that led to the establishment of the Maine Discovery Museum, a hands-on children’s museum in downtown Bangor, and continued her service to the museum as a board member and as founding chair of their annual benefit auctions from 2003 - 2012.  In addition, she served five consecutive three-year terms as an elected member of the Bangor School Committee and the United Technologies Center.

For more than 20 years, Carlisle was a volunteer for the Bangor Junior League where she served in a variety of capacities. As part of the eventual dissolution process of the local Junior League, Carlisle helped oversee the transfer of its $100,000 endowment to the Maine Community Foundation.  This transfer provided the seed money necessary to startup the Maine Community Foundation’s Penobscot County Fund.   She served as chair of this fund at its inception and remains involved with the Maine Community Foundation as a volunteer grant-reader for both the Penobscot County Fund and the Maine Charity Fund.

In 2001, Carlisle received the International Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow Award.  Five years later, she received WLBZ-TV’s “2 Those Who Care” Award.  She remains committed to Husson University in her capacity as a trustee and a member of the educational institution’s Women’s Philanthropy Council.

For more than 100 years, Husson University has prepared future leaders to handle the challenges of tomorrow through innovative undergraduate and graduate degrees.  With a commitment to delivering affordable classroom, online and experiential learning opportunities, Husson University has come to represent superior value in higher education.  Our Bangor campus and off-campus satellite education centers in South Portland, Wells and Presque Isle provide advanced knowledge in business; health and education; pharmacy studies, science and humanities; as well as communication.  In addition, Husson University has a robust adult learning program.  For more information about educational opportunities that can lead to personal and professional success, visit Husson.edu
